From Moonset to Sunrise – A Seceda Elopement & Alpe di Siusi Adventure
From Dance Floor to Dolomites
She was American, he had grown up between Persian and American cultures, and they had found each other through salsa dancing. After a thoughtful week exploring the European mountains, they were ready to elope – their Seceda elopement unfolding where two cultures meet ancient limestone and endless sky.
Their multi-day Dolomites elopement would stretch across the dramatic ridgeline of Seceda and the gentle meadows of Alpe di Siusi – a perfect reflection of love that includes both intensity and ease.
Into the Heart of Seceda
We had begun our journey together the day before – traveling up from the valley by cable car and a short hike to our mid-mountain hotel. Seceda doesn’t offer mountaintop accommodations, so we positioned ourselves as close as possible to where morning would call us – the iconic ridgeline that draws couples from around the world for their Seceda elopement.
In the middle of the night, we woke for a first look under the stars. The moon hid behind the mountains, so we created our own light – lanterns casting a warm, joyful glow as they held each other against the vast darkness, creating their own private world while the universe watched quietly overhead.

When the Moon Shows the Way
We started our hike upward in that deep blue hour before dawn. Then the moon revealed itself, peeking out from behind the peaks to offer us something magical – a moonset. As we climbed higher, the moon descended, a celestial goodbye before the sun began bringing light back into the world.
The temperature was sub-zero Celsius, around 30 degrees Fahrenheit, manageable until we reached the top and the wind unexpectedly picked up. Suddenly, the cold became fierce, urgent. At sunrise, they hugged and danced to stay warm, their bodies moving together against the elements, finding heat in each other and joy in the challenge.

Vows That Bring Tears
We hiked between the fences and lines that crisscross the top of Seceda, making our way to one of the outskirts where the crowds thin and the intimacy deepens. Under the warming sun, they said their vows to each other.
I didn’t hear much – I was moving around them, capturing it all while giving them the space their words deserved. But what I did catch brought tears to my eyes. It was their full acknowledgment of each other’s realities not always matching, yet still being seen, still being honored. The kind of vulnerable truth that makes love real, that makes promises mean something.
A Letter by the Lake
Next, we made our way to a small lake tucked into the landscape. Here, they read a letter from the bride’s father – a joyful, small celebration moment that felt like a blessing carried across oceans. The water reflected their faces as they shared his words, adding another layer of love to a day already overflowing with meaning.
After more than twelve hours together, we called it a day. They had earned their evening – massage, wonderful dinner, and the simple luxury of being alone with what they had just experienced. But not before one of the hotel staff had graciously hosed down the bottom of the bride’s dress at her request, washing away the mountain’s embrace to prepare for tomorrow’s adventure.
Dawn at Alpe di Siusi
The following morning, I met them and a slightly cleaner dress at Alpe di Siusi for sunrise. The transition from Seceda’s dramatic ridgeline to these rolling meadows felt like moving from symphony to lullaby – both beautiful, both necessary.
After watching the sun paint the peaks in soft pastels, we made a little loop through this gentler landscape. We rode the chairlift up and down, gaining wonderful views over the area from a different perspective, the mechanical ascent offering moments of rest and conversation between the more demanding portions of their adventure.
Our final stop was one of my favorite mountain huts, where the story of their two-day celebration found its natural conclusion – not with drama, but with warmth, good food, and the quiet satisfaction of having given their love story the gift of both challenge and comfort.
The Beauty of Multiple Days
This wasn’t just a celebration – it was a study in the wisdom of taking time. Time to acclimate before beginning. Time to travel up together and settle in. Time to experience both the fierce beauty of Seceda’s ridgeline and the gentle embrace of Alpe di Siusi’s meadows. Time for twelve-hour days and restorative evenings. Time for moonset and sunrise, for tears and laughter, for vows and letters and the simple pleasure of a clean dress.
They had understood from the beginning that the most meaningful experiences can’t be rushed. Their week of preparation, their choice to spread their Dolomites adventure elopement across landscapes and elevations, their willingness to wake in darkness for the gift of witnessing moonset before sunrise – all of it reflected a deep understanding of how presence is cultivated, how memories are made to last.
Dreaming of Your Own Multi-Day Dolomites Adventure?
For couples drawn to the idea of celebration that includes both intensity and gentleness, drama and comfort, a Seceda elopement combined with the welcoming embrace of Alpe di Siusi offers an ideal progression. From the challenging beauty of limestone ridgelines to Alpine meadows, from sub-zero sunrise vows to afternoon chairlift rides and mountain hut celebrations.
If you’re considering a multi-day Dolomites elopement, there’s wisdom in following their example – taking time to arrive fully, to acclimate, to be present for the profound and the playful in equal measure.
